Bills Troughs In England

Bills troughs in England There is two troughs of the same design I have been sent photos of one located in Englefield Green. St Judes Rd Surrey.  and the other one is in Tilehurst 107 Park Lane Reading RG31 4 DR UK These troughs would have been made in the UK and formed out of a large single slab of Granite..Engraved on one side is George and Annis Bills Australia, and the other side has Metropolitan Drinking fountain  & cattle Trough Association.

Tunbridge Well also has a Bills Trough of a different design.

I have received some information that when George was visiting England he donated money to the Metropolitan Drinking Fountain and Cattle Trough Association to financed six troughs to be installed in England some of which were destroyed in the Air raids bombing which took place during World War 2.

This was what George did to relieve the suffering of animals..George ImageBills was born in England and he Married Annis Swann from Brighton England in Brisbane Australia. When they were on a holiday back to Brighton UK Annis died on the 30th March 1910 and she was buried in England. George died 14 Dec 1927 in Melbourne Australia and he left the bulk his estate to form a trust fund to supply Horse Troughs to organisations who applied for them. It is thought about 500 of these troughs were made between 1928 and 1939 In Australia I have been collecting the locations and getting photos these troughs that still remain today. So far i know of over 300 of these Bills troughs which were mostly made from a standard mould by the Rocla company.
